Guardian's Science and Technology Center, in Carleton Michigan, was opened in 2000 and continues to develop innovative glass products for the residential, commercial, and interiors applications, as well as, the transportation, solar and electronics markets.
We are currently searching for an experienced Senior Design Engineer with extensive system design experience to join our team at the Science and Technology Center in Carleton, Michigan.
The ideal candidate is capable of developing designs from concept; establishing tolerances and specifications that strike a balance between customer/product performance requirements and current equipment capabilities and material constraints. They must possess the ability to perform and direct engineering analysis activities such as thermal and structural modeling, Finite Element Analysis and Design of Experiments. Direct glass industry experience is desirable but not necessary.
Specific responsibilities will include:
All applicable component and final assembly drawings, specifications and engineering documents
Engineering analysis (Thermal Modeling, Materials Engineering, Finite Element Analysis, Design of Experiments, Root Cause, etc.)
Recommendations for maximizing performance with given constraints
Use Six Sigma and Lean tools to resolve issues, identify opportunities for improvement and reduce costs.
Define product specifications based on customer requirements, product performance characteristics, and capabilities of existing production processes
Job Requirements :
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and traits:
Required:
BS Mechanical Engineering
5 or more years of experience minimum in a functional role as a Product Development Engineer, Design Engineer or Product Engineer
High level of expertise in engineering analysis and statistical modeling
Expertise in design optimization tools (e.g. Design for Manufacturing, Design for Six Sigma, Geometric, Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T))
Knowledgeable in the use computer-aided design programs and design simulation software (AutoCAD Inventor/equivalent, SolidWorks, Window/Therm)
Demonstrated ability in providing direction to external resources for design services in-line with the strategic direction of the platform
Ability to apply past experiences to a broad range of products
